Tony Schwartz, of The Energy Project, wrote a great blog post about appreciation:

I've been trying to increase the frequency of real heartfelt appreciation to my project teams, and I think I'm having some success.
A breakthrough today happened when a team member reached out to a technician who is not on our core team with a heartfelt massage of appreciation. Only good things have come form both my and my team's efforts to voice our appreciation of those we work with.
I highly recommend Tony, his HBR post, and frequent messages to your team voicing heartfelt appreciation.
I believe that projects are everywhere, ubiquitous, and that it is in the thousands of projects I see everyday that I can have the greatest impact. I work to be a constant source of positive reinforcement and encouragement to everyone working on projects, posting six days a week to share good news, good thoughts, and great projects with my project peers.

Paradign Shift - Sprinter vs. Marathoner
Here is a fun exercise from Tony Schwartz at The Energy Project. Take Tony's form, and add the details describing what drains your energy, and what refuels your energy. I've added my completed form below.

Tony Schwartz and The Energy Project
| Tony's Books |
Tony evangelizes that we need to manage our energy instead of our time. He explores and shares ways to increase personal energy and teaches techniques to integrate energy building habits into your day.
Simply put - increasing energy equals increasing capacity. People who count hours and minutes just miss out. This is fascinating material that will cause introspection.
