Tools Tuesday - Six Ways I Use Webinars

I view online and recorded webinars.  Carefully selected webinars give me great value for time spent.

Six ways I Use Webinars:

  1. To maintain my credential (PMI-PMP).  It is easy to find webinars offered by PMI Registered Education Providers (REPs) so that the PMI-PDU bookkeeping is easy.  If you pony up for a PMI membership, there are several good webinars offered by the various Communities of Practice via the PMI Site (Look in myPMI).
  2. For "Just in Time" training when I undertake a new or less-familiar task.
  3. To ensure that my organization's processes and procedures are industry best practice and sometimes to find opportunities to improve processes and procedures.
  4. To entertain myself during those rare times when I've done everything I can for my projects (See maintaining my credential above).
  5. To test drive areas as I consider taking additional in-depth training.  For example, do I want to study for, and sit for the ITIL foundation certificate?
  6. To introduce myself to thought leaders in my industry.
I also plan to present webinars to share my unique knowledge and perspectives and to increase my network's reach.  Wish me luck!

Add webinars to your Professional Development Plan and use them to fill in the slow times while gaining information, insights, and qualifications.

Chasing PDUs: Free On-Demand PDUs at the PMXPO

Posted by Alan Casey

In this first edition of "Chasing PDUs" we highlight the PMXPO at Gantthead.com.

Note that while I am part of the Gantthead community, this is not a sponsored post.

Take advantage of free, on-demand PDUs at Gantthead.com by registering for and attending their Project Management Expo (PMXPO).  Go to Gantthead.com and click the "On Demand PMXPO link in the "Coming Events" box on the left margin.  If it's removed later, just search the site.

Fill in a brief form, and Gantthead sends you an email with the direct link to the PMXPO.  For each session you attend (view) you may claim a Category 3 PDU.  Gantthead is a PMI Registered Education Provider.  Check your profile at gantthead.com and you will see the PDUs posted a few days after earning them.

The Verdict:

Cost:  A+ for Free Content!

Schedule:  A+ for providing these on-demand.  Perfect for fitting into my busy schedule.

Administrivia:  A Because Gantthead is a Registered Education Provider with PMI, these are easy PDUs to document and claim.  Gantthead even maintains your PDU history in your on-line profile.  No need to maintain these files at home.

Span Factor:  B  Gantthead will send you stuff if you don't uncheck the right box during registration.  I like their emails - they keep me connected.  I give them good marks here because my experience with their customer service have been outstanding.  I trust them to offer and honor an unsubscribe request.  I suspect that if you are new to Gantthead that you will return for their content.

GPA:  4.0 for an A
