AboutProjectManagement's Anki Project - Part 3: Shared Decks

Continuing to explore the Anki Flashcard system, today's post introduces shared card decks.

Anki is a great tool to start with. Active recall testing and spaced repetition make Anki more efficient than traditional study methods. Anki's repository of shared decks makes Anki that much more valuable by allowing me to browse decks that others have created and download those that I wish to study.

To find shared decks (including our AboutProjectManagement.com decks - subject of a later post) select download in Anki and search by the desired deck's name/subject.

As you can see, I just uploaded AboutProjectManagement.com's deck - only 14 facts so far. More about this in part 4 of our continuing series.

Teaser: I'm thinking of doing a series of posts covering my favorite tools for Project Managers, Anki will certainly be one of those tools.

AboutProjectManagement's Anki Project - Part 2

Recall from Part 1, that Anki is a high tech flashcard program, and that I've committed to create an Anki deck with key learnings from AboutProjectManagement.com.

This brief post walks os through the steps to download and install a local Anki client.  Note that the local client is optional!  If you wish, you may access the AboutProjectManagement.com Anki deck via a browser (after I post the instructions in a future post).

So here is the super simple process:

Step one:  Google Anki
Step two:  Find the Anki that is a flashcard program (not the musical artist)
Step three:  Download Anki for you platform (e.g., win, mac, linex, etc.)
Step four: Install

After you've installed Anki you will note that you can download Anki Decks.  My evil plan is to upload (and maintain) and AboutProjectManagement.com deck with facts from the various informative posts on our blog.

Next up:

Anki Part 3:  Shared Decks
Anki Part 4:  The AboutProjectManagement.com decks
Anki Part 5:  Browser and Mobile Access

PS  Yes, this is a short post - busy day, but I try to have some new material for you each and every day :)

5 Crucial Conversations: Follow up with Link

One of the purposes of AboutProjectManagement.com is to serve as a repository of project management related information and references.  While updating our new Anki deck, I tried to reference the 5 crucial conversations materials- and I didn't find the link (Argh!).

This post rectifies that with a link to a very good slide deck describing that material:

AboutProjectManagement's ANKI Project - Part 1

As we've become more active posting here on AboutProjectManagement.com, I want to learn and retain some of the great information contained in our posts.

Enter Anki, an important part of my project management toolkit.  Anki is a Flash-Card system using active recall testing and spaced repetition. These make Anki more efficient than traditional study methods.

I don't remember how I initially found Anki.  It may have been this KK Cool Tools post, or it may have been this MakeUseOf.com post.  I'm glad to have found it and happy to pass it along.

It will be fun to capture all the great material we post here at AboutProjectManagement.com in an Anki deck an share it.  With that goal in mind, I propose four more Anki-related posts:

Anki Part 2:  Getting and installing the local client
Anki Part 3:  Shared Decks
Anki Part 4:  The AboutProjectManagement.com decks
Anki Part 5:  Browser and Mobile Access

And moving forward, we can add cards to our AboutProjectManagement.com deck to help us all retain our mastery of all things related to Project Management.

What do you think?  Add a comment and share . . . .
